Gzowski College Head:
Lindy Garneau
“May your anchor be light, and your compass be true.”
I am thrilled to welcome you to Peter Gzowski College!
Many years ago I embarked on a journey that would change my life. I arrived on the shore of the Otonabee River in search of my very own buried treasure. What I found here at Trent University sparkles brighter than jewels and is worth more than gold. Here I developed lasting relationships with students, staff, and faculty. I found community while volunteering on campus, and by exploring my academic curiosities, I discovered myself.
It honours me to be a part of your newest learning journey. When beginning any journey it is normal to feel excited and nervous at the same time. It is okay if you are unsure of which courses you want to take, or what academic program you would like to major in. We have an amazing team at the College Office who can help to point you in the right direction. Simply call the College Office at 705-748-1011 x.1743, send us an email at [email protected], or come and visit us at Gzowski College room 214.
My love of Trent University runs deep, so deep I decided to build a career here. Over the past 10 years I have worked in Student Accessibility Services (SAS), the Student Wellness Centre, the Indigenous Studies Department, and The First Peoples House of Learning (FPHL). I am Trent proud!
In this moment, how are you creating your best university experience? Throughout ISW and into the first weeks of class I invite you to reflect on this question. I welcome your responses and would very much like to chat more with you about the experience you would like to create. Contact me at [email protected]
What I know for sure is that at Gzowski College, every day is an adventure. My best advice for navigating the unpredictable seawaters of student life here at Trent is to “work like a captain and play like a pirate”.
Happy ISW!

Gzowski College Academic Advisor:
Melanie Buddle
Welcome to Trent and to Peter Gzowski College, where you will start your university experience in an amazing community. My name is Melanie Buddle and I am the Academic Advisor in Gzowski College. You can find me in the College Office (Gzowski College suite 214).
I am here to help you find balance between your personal and academic goals, to help you achieve success, however you define it, and to help you with your educational planning.
I have been working at Trent, in various roles, since 2003. I have a PhD in History from the University of Victoria but I grew up in this area and my husband is a Trent grad. I always look forward to College events and getting to know our Gzowski students, and I look forward to meeting you as well. If you have a question about your academics, such as your course picks, degree planning, a possible change of Major – or really anything at all that you have a question about – come in to see me! I can help you figure out your timetable or the academic calendar, or help you decide what to do if you get sick or if classes are not going too well. And if I can’t help you, chances are I can help direct you to the appropriate resource.
First-year University is a lot of fun and I have great memories of my first year. But it can also be challenging to be in a new place, away from home and family. Your College support team includes College Head Lindy Garneau, me, and upper year students and mentors who work in our office and can help answer lots of your questions so we hope you stop in sometime.
I look forward to meeting you this year! Book an appointment at www.trentu.ca/advising , by coming into the Gzowski College office, or phoning 705-748-1011, extension 7333.
